A good store usually answers questions quickly and does not hide behind canned messages. Smaller shops can be surprisingly friendly if they care about repeat customers. Many times I avoided a bad purchase just by reading a few careful comments. The main things I look at for glasses are frame weight, hinge quality and lens coating. 
 
If anyone is interested in real user experiences, I sometimes write short notes about the shops I test.

Good stitching usually means the item will not fall apart after one or two washes. Even big and famous brands sometimes send generic replies that are not very helpful. I also check if the store explains how to measure PD and frame size clearly. Reviews that mention long term use are more valuable than comments written on day one. I have learned to avoid items that look extremely different in every product photo. A product that still looks good after a few months is more impressive than something only good on arrival.
